Greensburg, Ind. — The following statement has been issued by the Greensburg Police Department (GPD) on the passing of K9 Dino:
K9 Dino Remembered: Loyal Partner, Relentless Protector, Forever Missed
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of K9 Dino on June 30, 2025 due to an unexpected medical emergency. A Belgian Tervuren with a fierce drive and unwavering loyalty, K9 Dino served with distinction, courage, and heart.
K9 Dino began his law enforcement career with the Jennings County Sheriff's Office in September 2022. Certified through the International Police Work Dog Association (IPWADA), Dino received his foundational training from FMK9, where he quickly stood out for his intense work ethic, intelligence, and eagerness to serve.
Whether tracking suspects, detecting narcotics, or standing alert during high-risk operations, Dino performed every task with unmatched dedication.
On June 30, 2025—the very day of his passing—Dino and his trusted handler, Officer John Amis, completed a lateral transfer to the Greensburg Police Department. Though his time in Greensburg was tragically brief, Dino’s impact was already undeniable.
To Officer Amis, Dino was more than a K9 partner—he was family. Their bond was forged through countless hours of training, deployments, and shared experiences. Dino loved his job with passion, but he loved his handler even more. Wherever Amis went, Dino was right there beside him, eyes focused, ready for the next command.
K9 Dino’s passing is not just a loss to law enforcement—it is a loss to the community he served, the officers who stood beside him, and the handler who never left his side.
Run free, Dino. You’ve done your job with honor. We’ll take it from here.
