Permits

The City of Greensburg Building Department is responsible for assuring that all construction meets minimum health and life standards, and building and zoning codes.  The department issues improvement location permits for a variety of activities (including commercial and residential new construction, remodeling, and swimming pools), reviews building plans, and answers requests for information on zoning, code requirements, and the number and type of permits issued. The Building Department is also responsible for nuisance complaints and zoning violations within the city limits.

If an inspection fails, or the building inspector must come back, due to not being ready for an inspection, you will be responsible for a $100 re-inspection fee per inspection (Ord. 2022-1). 

Reminder, signs of any type, and more specifically, garage and yard sale signs,  shall not be permitted in any of the following locations:  Utility poles, street signs, trees, or towers (Ord.155.071). 

Any additions, improvements, or alterations to your home or property, a permit is required for most improvements, including but not limited to:

  • New Residential and Commercial Buildings
  • Modular Homes and Mobile Homes
  • Sheds and Storage Buildings
  • Attached or Detached Garages
  • Swimming Pools (in-ground and above ground over 30”)
  • Room Additions and Sun Rooms
  • Decks, Porches, and Carports
  • Electrical Service upgrades
  • Kitchen and Bath remodels
  • Demolition
  • Permanent or Temporary Signs
  • Fence

The following items may be required by The City of Greensburg Building Department prior to the issuance of the permit:

  • One set of construction plans, including floor plan, wall detail, engineered truss detail, and material list
  • Site plan showing location of structure and/or improvements, other structures, property lines and dimension, easements and setbacks
  • Receipts from Greensburg Water and Sewer, if applicable
  • Driveway permit from state or street department, if applicable
  • State Design Release for commercial work
  • Erosion Control Permit, if applicable

Inspection fees.  Permits shall be issued upon prior payment of inspection fees according to the following schedule:

** A reinspection fee will be charged if the building inspector has to return to the premises for either a failure or work not completed
     
Residential Demolition: $100.00 Primary Plat: 300 + $5 per lot
Commercial Demolition:  $200.00 Secondary Plat: $200 + $5 per lot
     
Variance/Special Exception:  $150.00    
     
Mobile Home: $100 to set
