Gun Permits

Effective July 1, 2021 the lifetime license to carry a handgun (LTCH) will become fee exempt, per IC 35-47-2-4.  The five year and lifetime LTCH may be applied for and held concurrently.

If you are a resident of the City of Greensburg and State of Indiana, in order to obtain a carry permit you must complete the Indiana State Police Firearms Licensing Application and schedule electronic fingerprinting. After your fingerprints are complete, you must visit the Greensburg Police Department for your local background check.  Your application will be reviewed by the Chief of Police, and if your background check is clear, the Chief will recommend the application for approval via the website and submit to Indiana State Police Firearms Division. If approved, you should receive your gun permit within approximately 60 days after final approval.

Instructions

As of October 1, 2014, the state of Indiana requires all individuals to apply for their handgun carry permits online. Follow these instructions when filling out the application:

  1. Go to the Indiana State Police website and complete the application. At the end of the application, you will receive directions on how to schedule electronic fingerprinting (step 2) and payment of the state fee.
  2. Schedule your electronic fingerprinting through IdentoGO. (This can NOT be done at the Police Department).
  3. Bring your Application Number and photo ID to your local law enforcement agency.
  4. Your application will be electronically transferred to Indiana State Police for final review. If your application is approved, your permit will be sent to you via U.S. Mail. If your application is rejected, you will be notified via U.S. Mail and will receive instructions on how to file an appeal.

If you have any questions, please contact the Greensburg Police Department during Records/Administration hours.
